Pharma Global Capability Centres, a magnet for talent in Medical Communications in India

Today’s Times Now article on India’s booming GCC ecosystem offers a timely case study for anyone in medical communications and Regulatory Writing. With 1,700+ centres and a projected $600B impact, GCCs are evolving from back-end support to strategic innovation hubs—especially in healthcare, life sciences, and digital therapeutics. The GCC brigade as mentioned in the Times Article includes Novartis, Sanofi, BMS, Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, Merck KGaA, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sandoz and Bayer. The article highlights that over 55 healthcare and life sciences GCC's are now present in India, operating over 95 centres spread across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai. This includes 23 of the world's top 50 life sciences companies.

For medical communicators, this shift means:

  • More cross-functional collaboration with global teams

  • Greater demand for scientifically credible, audience-tailored messaging

  • New opportunities to shape narratives around clinical data, HCP engagement, and patient-centric innovation

  • Exposure to global campaigns

As we explore branding, storytelling, and stakeholder impact in our MedWriters course, GCCs offer a real-world backdrop for how strategic communication drives value in complex ecosystems.
